On April 8th I exchanged e-mails with a PSA Executive who asked that his comments be private and not for publication. His comments will not be published, but below I have reproduced excerpts of my remarks to him and an e-mail sent to PSA members three days later on April 11th.
April 8th E-Mail Comments
"do not mean to disparage you or anyone else, but a Executive Search Firm would be better qualified and would have more experience, resources and efficiency in getting the word out, among other functions (transparency, objectivity, independence, legitimacy)"
"how would you describe the Search process so far? mechanics, process, level of involvement of range of squash stakeholders, independence, transparency, objectivity, awareness outside squash fraternity, utilization of web job sites/other 'new media', insistence on UK based executive"
"disagree, our sport would benefit by:
- acknowledging mistakes, failures, shortcomings so that we:
- don`t repeat them
- remove the people at the helm who contributed or facilitated them by their ineffectiveness or inaction
- create a future culture of heightened standards, expectations and one where decision makers have a healthy awareness/concern that their actions are and will be scrutinized"
"sorry, but when I do a web search for PSA CEO search position ... I largely come up empty. "
"How effective have we been getting as many websites as possible to post the vacancy?
ESF no
US squash no
Squash Canada no
Squash AUS no "
"What about job sites outside our sport?
Sent e-mail of vacancy particulars to Executive Search Firms?"
"on the contrary, some 'CEO material' candidates might see:
- wonderful turnaround opportunity
- means of really showcasing their skills, abilities"

A message from Ted Wallbutton on the search for new CEO
The search for a new Chief Executive for the PSA has now started and I would like to keep you informed about the process we are using.
A Job Ad and Job Description has been drawn up and has been posted on the PSA website and also sent to the full mailing lists of PSA and the WSF, with a request for WSF member nations to put it on their own national websites. The ad has also been placed on a number of key specialist executive recruitment sites.
As Interim Chief Executive I am driving this whole process and all applications are coming in to me. There has already been a high number of applications and I expect the rate of interest to increase over the next few weeks. The quality of candidate so far is very impressive.
I am carrying out telephone interviews with all potential candidates and the report on these interviews, together with the candidates' CVs will be circulated to the Board on a daily basis. They will then give a personal view on whether the candidate should be on a provisional short-list. After the closing date the Board will then re-consider the names they have selected and construct a final short-list of about 10 people. These candidates will be interviewed on 22/23 May in London, around the Super Series Final. We hope that if a first class person comes through this process he will be appointed as soon as possible afterwards.
The interview panel will be the majority of the Board plus one or two independent advisers.
There is a possibility that one or more members of the current Board may be applying for the position and they have been excluded from all parts of the recruitment process, including the drafting of the Job Ad and will, of course, not be on the interview panel.
We are doing everything possible to recruit the best possible professional to this key role and if you know of someone with appropriate business and marketing skills who might be interested in this great opportunity, please ask them to contact me as soon as possible.

If you have changed your passport recently or will be doing so in the future, please make sure you send us jpg copy of your new one straight away as we need to get this over to the Saudi organizers for them to apply for the initial block visa.
