Since WISPA looks after the top women squash players and their World Tour, it is hardly surprising that the main thrust of the player's body is growing the pro game; developing more and more events, encouraging sponsors, raising the profile of women's international squash, pushing TV, strengthening returns for sponsors and of course putting more money into the pockets of players whose livelihood is competing.

These are the branches of the WISPA tree of squash. But to see it grow and blossom we recognise that it needs strong roots and we must give them fertile ground. Hence the development of a new WISPA initiative which aims to nurture women's and girls squash, nourish promotional options and generally help ensure a great future.

It is the WISPA Patrons Club - an exciting new initiative intended help to strengthen our links with the developmental end of squash and thus play a larger part in supporting educational programmes.  And as a partnership it will enable committed people and indeed companies to be a part of this process.

WISPA Patrons will, through their support and enthusiasm to see girls' and women's squash grow, help enable WISPA develop ‘green shoot’ support, as well as marketing programmes and general promotional initiatives.

The initiative is part of the new WISPA vision:

More Players, More Nations, More Media Coverage … More Squash Success!

Han_13_WISPA.jpgAs WISPA President Natalie Grainger explained recently: "Our main focus is our World Tour, but we want to be able to strengthen these links and thus to play a larger part in supporting educational programmes using our role model players."

Another facet of nurturing the grass roots is by actively taking members to new nations.  In recent months, WISPA events in Iran, Iceland, China, Pakistan and Portugal - in addition to Vietnam last month - show the breadth of these efforts. These are managed under the WISPA Premiere Series banner.

Exploring every means we can to raise the profile ush_13.jpgof women's international squash, develop interest in it, and thus grow the Tour is what WISPA is about. That, in itself, will encourage participation and growth of the sport.  It will also assist us as we strive towards inclusion in the Olympics.

Membership of the WISPA Patrons Club will be open to anybody who wishes to join in the WISPA effort to play a part in promoting girls' and women's squash. Giving can be in the form of a membership or alternatively a direct contribution of resources e.g. air miles to a specific Patrons Club project.

Why not sign up to support the future of squash?
