Ask the Expert ... Officiating E-mail

If there is sufficient interest, participation and a spirit of open and respectful dialogue, we would like to make this an ongoing feature on Squash360.

Every week or so (during the squash season) we will:
  - post a a new Officiating/Rules question or scenario
  - invite your opinions, comments and discussion
  - after the Armchair Officials have had their say, we will Ask the Expert(s) for their ruling and comments and post them on-line (so far we have the generous participation of Barry Faguy, Rod Symington, Jos Aarts and Graham Waters in answering your questions)

So here we go, the first question for you the squash audience:

PREMATURE EXCLAMATION   Assuming the striker was about to stop and ask for a let, the Referee quickly says stroke for what was a routine stroke. However, the player says he wasn't asking and intended to continue - but of course, play has now stopped. Other than the obvious advice to always be certain that the player is indeed asking, what should the Referee do?
